How does a Lanterna Spring course actually help IB students? 2017-04-05T17:00:24+00:00

See the full picture

Students often struggle to see the full picture of a subject, but this is essential in order to score the higher marks in IB exams. Focusing on one subject at a time at the Lanterna Spring courses allows students to make the necessary connections between different parts of the course in a short space of time.

Understand how to answer exam questions

To do well in the IB exams it is crucial to understand how to apply knowledge to the exam questions. All Lanterna tutors scored top marks in their subjects, so they are experts at demonstrating how to do this. Students will leave with the confidence to show examiners what they know to the best of their ability when it matters the most.

Make fast progress

During the months running up to the IB exams, time is a very precious resource. At Lanterna Spring courses, students are able to study a subject at a much faster pace than most, if not all, students would be able to achieve when studying on their own, which is a huge advantage.

How much difference can you make in 2 or 4 days at a spring course? 2017-03-31T16:34:58+00:00

During their time at the courses, students spend 16 hours (or 32 hours for 4 day Foundation Classes) studying intensely, without distractions. The tutor covers the entire core of the subject and explains the most difficult parts of the course in detail. They will also highlight the most important knowledge and skills needed to do well in the exams at the end of the IB. Staying motivated and achieving all of this on your own in the same amount of time is nearly impossible for most students.

Small Groups

Because of the small group sizes at the Lanterna courses each student can be individually helped with their specific problem areas. This means they can progress at a much faster rate than they would be able to achieve when studying on their own.

Get extra help

For students who feel they need more days to cover a subject, we offer our 4 day Foundation Class in some subjects and locations, allowing the tutors to take a slower pace and give more time to practice questions. For more information about this please look at our course schedules for London, Munich, and Stockholm.

Our courses give you the chance to combine studying and having fun, putting aside time to focus on weaker areas and to improve grades.

Who are the tutors? 2017-04-05T17:17:06+00:00

The Lanterna tutors are very high performing IB graduates, who are now pursuing degrees at top universities such as Oxford and Cambridge. Besides having achieved exceptional results in their IB Diploma (the most common score among our team is 45 IB Diploma points) they are also passionate about inspiring current IB students and passing on their knowledge.

How do you choose the tutors? 2017-04-05T17:29:44+00:00

A very strong academic track record is a must. We also demand exceptional communication skills so that they can convey their knowledge on to current IB students in a clear and engaging way. In 2013, we received a recommendation rate of over 97% from our students, so we are confident that our tutor recruitment process is working.

Our Recruitment Process

Our tutor selection process includes several stages during which we observe the applicants teaching. After this stage many candidates are turned away, even some who have scored 45 points in the IB. This stage also ensures that all the Lanterna tutors really are exceptional. Less than 10-15% of the more than 300 tutor applications we receive each year are accepted as members of the Lanterna tutor team.

How are the tutors trained? 2015-01-21T10:49:15+00:00

Our new tutors go through a day of training and thereafter receive continuous support and feedback through a mentoring program. This ensures that when they are tutoring at the courses, they are able to perform at their absolute best from day one.

How can an IB graduate help IB students improve? 2017-04-05T17:33:46+00:00

Because our tutors are successful IB graduates they are in an excellent position to advise students on IB study and revision techniques. They can also explain difficult areas of the syllabus in the way that eventually made sense to them when they were an IB student. Many students find that Lanterna tutors provide both inspiration and reassurance, increasing their confidence and leaving them prepared to take on their exams.

Who are the other staff at the courses, besides the tutors? 2015-01-21T10:47:17+00:00

At all our courses, besides the tutors who do all the teaching and the Course Directors who make sure the courses run smoothly, we also have several dedicated staff members who are there to ensure that all students have a fun, secure and inspiring learning experience, while attending the Lanterna Courses.
