How The Mid-IB Summer Courses Work
Arranged pick-up and drop-off
The Lanterna staff picks you up at 16:30 on the first day of your course at Paddington Station (train station) in central London. They also drop you off at Paddington Station at 11:00 on your final day of your final course.
Your tuition
Prior to arriving at the courses you will fill in a survey telling your tutor which areas you wish to focus on.
Each day of class entails 4 hours of tuition and 1 evening hour of tutored homework sessions, totaling 20 hours of tuition per course. You have your tuition during the morning or in the afternoon. You will be given a schedule upon arrival so that you know if you have your classes during the morning slot or the afternoon slot.
During the other time slot you have the opportunity to attend our optional classes where you improve in crucial IB aspects such as in TOK and your Extended Essay. You may also work on homework or just spend this time meeting new friends and join the fun daytime activities arranged by our Social Staff.
A 1 hour homework session is then held after dinner allowing you to further practise the concepts you covered during the day and receive help from your tutors in the areas you don't understand.
Fun evening activities arranged by our social staff round off the day. This can be everything from relaxed movie nights to active team challenges where everyone attending the summer courses join in.
Meals
During the days you will receive breakfast, lunch and dinner prepared by our designated chefs. We also provide you with coffee, tea and snacks during your breaks from class.
Attending more than one course period
Tuition free days and day-trips
If you attend more than one Mid-IB summer course, you will not only increase the amount of time you spend learning and studying during the summer. You will also be given the opportunity to attend our day trips. On July 28 (the final day of course period 1) the Social Staff organise a trip to the amusement park Thorpe Park and on August 2 they organise a culture and shopping trip to London.
These trips are optional and if you choose not to attend you will be free to spend the day at the course centre. You can find more information about the trips on the activities and trips page.
