Trips and activities at the Mid-IB Summer Courses in the UK

A key component to academic success.

The trips and activities provide the perfect balance between hard work and having fun.

Dedicated Lanterna Social Staff organise trips on the transfer days and make sure that there is a full range of fun activities that you can take part in at the courses.

IB summer courses in the UK gives you a wide range activities to attend and fun things to do at the mid-ib summer school.

Day Trips

The day trips are organized to take place on the last day of each course period since there is no tuition on the last day. These trips are optional and students attending two consecutive Mid-IB course periods are therefore given the opportunity to attend these trips. We leave in the morning and return in the evening. Students choosing not to attend will have access to the common day time activities at Bradfield.

Amusement Park: Thorpe Park

On the 28th of July (the last day of course period 1) we head to the amusement park Thorpe Park. Thorpe Park is one of Europe’s biggest and best known amusement parks and is situated on the outskirts of London. We will provide you with entrance tickets which includes unlimited access to the attractions so that you can focus on having a fantastic time. The fee to attend the day trip to Thorpe Park is GBP 69.

Shopping and Culture in London

On the 2nd of August (the last day of course period 2) we head to London to experience what the city has to offer. You’ll receive a lot of tips on where to go, but you will be free to go shopping and explore the city with your friends. London provides great shopping and cultural experiences including some of the world's most known museums and architecture. The fee to attend the day trip to London is GBP 49.

Course Centre Activities

During your stay at the courses our social staff are there to make sure that you are having a good time. They will help you find something to do during the day and they organize larger activities in the evenings.

Day Time Activities

During the day when you are not in class, regardless if you have a morning or afternoon class, you can rely on our social staff to help you find something to do. There are fantastic sports facilities with a large sports hall suitable for badminton, indoor tennis and table tennis. There are also many outdoor facilities, including football pitches, tennis courts (you can borrow rackets) and a basketball court right by the house. There is also an indoor pool that you will have access to, so make sure to bring your swimming gear if you would like to go swimming.

In the common room, which you will have access to throughout the day, you can hang out, watch movies, play some games or play the piano. Many students also gather here during the morning or in the afternoon to work on homework when they do not have class.

Evening Activities

When all of the tutored homework sessions have ended there is no more class time during the day. This marks the beginning of the evening activities. During the evening activities students gather and take part in larger activities organized by the Lanterna Social Staff. This is everything from quiz-nights to sportyish tournaments to marshmallow bonfires and barbecues. Generally students get into teams for these activities which enables them to meet new friends that make for long lasting friendship.
