The Pre-IB Summer Course

Course Outcome

The aim of the Pre-IB course is to prepare you for the two years of the diploma programme. We will give you all the preparation you need to tackle the challenges of the IB, and you can expect to gain confidence in your ability to perform your best. By the end of this course, you will be familiarsed with the IB as a wholeby working through a range of tasks to perfect your skills for each IB subject group.

In-depth knowledge of the IB

To give you more in-depth knowledge in the subjects of your interest, you are allocated four 2 hour slots where you sit in our Mid-IB courses. Our tutors are also always available around the campus area if you have further questions that extend beyond that of the class. This is to ensure that you are prepared and have extensive knowledge of what is expected of you in the subjects you are doing for your IB diploma.

Extra Mathematics Workshop

This 4 hour workshop focuses on consolidating and increasing your knowledge in mathematics. This workshop is ideal if you are looking to go beyond what is covered in our Pre-IB course, whether you wish to improve your foundations in mathematics or if you want to top up and perfect your already good mathematics skills. We have different groups for students who will be taking maths at studies level, standard level and higher level.

This workshop is held during a time slot when you do not have class. The fee for this class is SEK 790.

How the course works

Arranged pick-up and drop-off

The Lanterna staff picks you up at 16:30 on the first day of your course at the Stockholm Central Station. They also drop you off at the Stockholm Central Station at 11:00 on your final day of your final course.

Your tuition

Prior to arriving at the courses you will fill in a survey telling your tutor which areas you wish to focus on.

Each day of class entails 4 hours of tuition and 1 evening hour of tutored homework session, totaling 60 hours of tuition per course. You have your tuition during the morning or in the afternoon. You will be given a schedule upon arrival so that you know if you have your classes during the morning slot or the afternoon slot.

During your free time slots you have the opportunity to attend our mathematics workshop. You may also work on homework or just spend this time meeting new friends and join the fun daytime activities arranged by our Social Staff.

A 1 hour homework session is then held after dinner allowing you to further practise the concepts you covered during the day and receive help from your tutors in the areas you don't understand.

Fun evening activities arranged by our social staff round off the day. This can be everything from relaxed movie nights to active team challenges where everyone attending the summer courses join in.

Meals

During the days you will receive breakfast, lunch and dinner prepared by our designated chefs. We also provide you with coffee, tea and snacks during your breaks from class.

Tuition free days and day-trips

On July 26th and July 31st there are tuition free days where you get the opportunity to get a break from the intense studying and join us on a day trip to the amusement park Gröna Lund and a day of culture and shopping in Stockholm.

These trips are optional and if you choose not to attend you will be free to spend the day at the course centre where the Social Staff will organise fun activities. You can find more information about the trips on the activities and trips page.

Short Introduction to the IB Diploma Programme

In the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme you study six subjects over a two year period. Typically students choose three subjects at standard level and three at higher level (sometimes students choose to do more higher level subjects). One subject must be chosen from group 1-5 and the sixth subject can be chosen from the sixth group, The Arts, or from groups 1-5. There are also compulsory parts of the IB diploma programme in which you have to complete an Extended Essay, successfully complete Theory of Knowledge and take part in CAS.
