Trips and activities at the Pre-IB summer courses in Sigtuna
A key component to academic success.
The trips and activities provide the perfect balance between hard work and having fun.
Dedicated Lanterna Social Staff organise trips on the transfer days and make sure that there is a full range of fun activities that you can take part in at the courses.
Day Trips
The day trips are organised to take place on the last day of each course period since there is no tuition on the last day. These trips are optional and students attending two consecutive mid-ib course periods are therefore given the opportunity to attend these trips. We leave during the morning and return during evening. Students choosing not to attend will have access to the common day time activities at Sigtuna.
Amusement Park: Gröna Lund
On July 26th we head to the amusement park Gröna Lund. Gröna Lund is one of Scandinavia’s best known amusement parks and is situated on an island right outside of Stockholm. We will provide you with entrance tickets and a free ride wristband so that you can focus on having a fantastic time. The fee to attend the day trip to Gröna Lund is SEK 690.
Shopping and Culture in Stockholm
On July 31st we head to Stockholm to experience its culture. We'll be heading to one of the most famous museums and then you will be free to go shopping and explore the city with your friends. You’ll receive some of our best tips on where to go as Stockholm provides some of the world's great cultural experiences including some of Europe’s best historical museums and architecture. We advise you not to miss the changing of the guards ceremony at the Royal Palace. The fee to attend the day trip to Stockholm is SEK 590.
Course Centre Activities
During your stay at the courses our social staff are there to make sure that you are having a good time. They will help you find something to do during the day and they organise larger activities during the evenings.
Day Time Activities
During the day when you are not in class, regardless if you have a morning or afternoon class, you can rely on our social staff to help you find something to do. There are fantastic sports facilities including a sports hall, a gym, a dance studio and equipment for canoeing on the lake. There is also an outdoor football pitch, as well as basketball and beach volleyball courts. The beach at which you can go swimming in the lake is also situated very close by.
There is also a music room where you can practice and jam if you bring your instruments. There is also a piano in the common rooms which you can use. The common room provides you with a fantastic place to just hang out during the day and where you can watch movies or play some games. Actually, many students gather here to work on homework and talk about how the IB differs in the countries where they come from.
If you want to get away from all the studying then you can take a stroll by the beautiful lake setting or explore the historic sites of Sigtuna. You can also head into the town of Sigtuna to grab an ice-cream during the beautiful summer days (make sure to bring some pocket money for this).
Evening Activities
When all of the tutored homework sessions have ended there is no more class time during the day. This marks the beginning of the evening activities. During the evening activities students gather and take part in larger activities organised by the Lanterna Social Staff. This is everything from quiz-nights to sportyish tournaments to marshmallow bonfires and barbecues. Generally students get into teams which enables them to meet new friends that make for long lasting friendship.
