See the full picture
Students often struggle to see the full picture of a subject, but this is essential in order to score higher marks in IB exams. Focusing on one subject at a time at the Lanterna Spring courses allows students to make the necessary connections between different parts of the course in a short space of time.
Understand how to answer exam questions
To do well in the IB exams it is crucial to understand how to apply knowledge to the exam questions. All Lanterna tutors scored top marks in their subjects, so they are experts at demonstrating how to do this. Students will leave with the confidence to show examiners what they know to the best of their ability when it matters the most.
Make fast progress
During the months running up to the IB exams, time is a very precious resource. At Lanterna Spring courses, students are able to study a subject at a much faster pace than most, if not all, students would be able to achieve when studying on their own, which is a huge advantage.
During their time at the courses, students spend 16 hours (or 24 hours for 3-day Foundation Classes) studying intensely, without distractions. The tutor covers the entire core of the subject and explains the most difficult parts of the course in detail. They will also highlight the most important knowledge and skills needed to do well in the exams at the end of the IB. Staying motivated and achieving all of this on your own in the same amount of time is nearly impossible for most students.
Because of the small group sizes at the Lanterna courses each student can be individually helped with their specific problem areas. This means they can progress at a much faster rate than they would be able to achieve when studying on their own.
All of our tutors have scored 40+ points in the IB with 7’s in the subject that they tutor. Many of them now attend some of the best universities in the world, including Harvard, Oxford, and Cambridge.
The tutors go through a rigorous interview process and also have to take part in intense tutor training weekends ahead of teaching at their first course.
Lanterna receives 300+ applications from tutors whom all have scored more than 40 points, and only hire around 45 new tutors per year.
The feedback has consistently been excellent throughout the years. What students seem to appreciate the most, is the fact that the tutors have gone through the IB themselves, and therefore have an understanding of what it takes to do extremely well. They are relatable to the students, which means that students do not feel as though they are jumping from one school bench to another – instead, they come to Lanterna and are exposed to a brand new, inspiring teaching experience from passionate elite IB tutors attending some of the best universities in the world.
