Spring Exam Preparation – Practical Information

Classes start: 8:30

Classes end: 18:00

Registration at 8:00 on the first day of your course.

See the full picture

Students often struggle to see the full picture of a subject, but this is essential in order to score the higher marks in IB exams. Focusing on one subject at a time at the Lanterna Spring courses allows students to make the necessary connections between different parts of the course in a short space of time.

Understand how to answer exam questions

To do well in the IB exams it is crucial to understand how to apply knowledge to the exam questions. All Lanterna tutors scored top marks in their subjects, so they are experts at demonstrating how to do this. Students will leave with the confidence to show examiners what they know to the best of their ability when it matters the most.

Make fast progress

During the months running up to the IB exams, time is a very precious resource. At Lanterna Spring courses, students are able to study a subject at a much faster pace than most, if not all, students would be able to achieve when studying on their own, which is a huge advantage.

During their time at the courses, students spend 16 hours (or 24 hours for 3 day Foundation Classes) studying intensely, without distractions. The tutor covers the entire core of the subject and explains the most difficult parts of the course in detail. They will also highlight the most important knowledge and skills needed to do well in the exams at the end of the IB. Staying motivated and achieving all of this on your own in the same amount of time is nearly impossible for most students.

Small Groups

Because of the small group sizes at the Lanterna courses each student can be individually helped with their specific problem areas. This means they can progress at a much faster rate than they would be able to achieve when studying on their own.

Get extra help

Based on over 10 years of experience running revision courses, we’ve discovered that students need a little longer to cover some of their extensive syllabuses: Science, Maths and Economic HL. Our 3-day Exam
Preparation Class allows you to go at a slower pace, giving you 24 hours of revision. This will be more time to let the knowledge settle, which is essential in understanding the foundations of a subject.

By working through past exam questions, you bridge the gap between simply understanding the syllabus to understanding how to use that knowledge to master your final exams. Please be aware that 3-day classes are only offered in London and Munich

There are various staff members always available at the course centers. All students will also be given the Course Director’s phone number which they can use in case of emergency at any time of the day or night.

Free Time

Students are free to do whatever they like after lessons finish for the day and there is no official supervision arranged in the early mornings or evenings, however, should they need anything we will always do our best to help them.

Accommodation

For the safety of our students, there will always be at least one member of staff staying in the hotel or hostel, if you are staying at accommodation booked through us. All accommodation is located in a safe and convenient area.

If a student is staying at accommodation booked through us, breakfast is included. Students will be provided with fruit, biscuits and other snacks as well as juice, tea and coffee during both morning and afternoon breaks at the course center. For lunch, there are places to buy food near the course centers.

We recommend that you bring all the equipment you would normally bring to school (including your calculator), as well as the things you need when you spend time away from home. Feel free to bring your own notes from school, however, you will be given a Lanterna course compendium and you will be taking a lot of new notes in class.

Travel

You need to arrange your own transport to and from London, the course location and your accommodation.

If you are arriving at Heathrow Airport, the Heathrow Express will take you directly to Paddington Station in 15 minutes. Paddington Station is on the Bakerloo underground line, only a few stops from Baker Street Station and the course center.

If you are arriving at Gatwick Airport, the Gatwick Express will take you to London Victoria Station in 30 minutes. London Victoria is well linked with the underground; you can go directly to Euston station (for hotel and hostel accommodation) or a quick change can take you directly to the course center.

If you are arriving at Stansted Airport, the Stansted Express will take you to London Liverpool Street Station in 50 minutes. London Liverpool Street is well linked with the underground for both Euston Station and Baker Street Station.

If you are arriving at Luton Airport, a short bus will take you to Luton Parkway Station from directly outside the airport. A train will then take you to Kings Cross St Pancras, which is well linked on the underground for both Euston Station and Baker Street Station. The journey from Luton airport to St Pancras station takes around 40 minutes.

If you are arriving at London City airport, the DLR underground line leaves directly from the airport and will take you to Bank Station, well connected by underground for both Euston Station and Baker Street Station.
